Leonard Svensson has spent over 35 years representing and helping clients protect their intellectual property in the United States and around the world. Those representations have included counseling start-up companies to develop IP strategies and create company value; counseling start-up and multinational companies with respect to competitors, including opinions and guidance regarding conflicting or overlapping IP; and obtaining IP protection for companies in the United States and abroad. Mr. Svensson has defended client IP interests in numerous patent appeals, patent interferences and post-grant proceedings before the USPTO, and he has cooperated with local foreign counsel to obtain IP in various foreign countries, including participation in a number of opposition proceedings. He also has experience in patent and trade secret litigations in US courts.
Mr. Svensson specializes in representing clients in the life science and chemical fields, with vast experience in pharmaceuticals, biotechnology including antibodies and plant biotech, medical devices and methods, as well as biofuels and polymers.
Mr. Svensson was a partner from 1987 through 2015 with the IP boutique firm Birch, Stewart, Kolasch & Birch, LLP.
